REGIONAL WINES LISBOA
Here we have another wine from Lisbon, but it is not a common wine, or rather, a common harvest.
It results from a lot of history, a property founded by Abel Pereira da Fonseca in 1926 to manage the properties that he owned in the Bombarral region since the beginning of the century, and which still belong to the same family, after four generations.
Quinta de S. Francisco Late Harvest White Wine 2010 500ml is a Regional Wine of late harvest, in a terroir that combines an Atlantic climate, with Sauvignon Blanc (70%) and Fernão Pires (30%), which results from a process of vinification of a portion of vineyards where the grape varieties for the production of this particular wine are installed, gathering excellent edaphoclimatic conditions for the production of a late harvest. Property located at the confluence of two rivers, and protected by the "slopes" of the banks of the same, it produces during the night the production of high level of humidity in the grapes, and during the day a "greenhouse" effect derived from the protection of the wind excellent conditions for the development of the fungus Botrytis Cinerea.
Weekly, berries were harvested from different locations in the parcel for physical chemical analysis and organoleptic testing to proceed with the marking of the grape harvest.
In the second half of October the grapes were harvested manually by a team of specialized people, where only the grapes that showed symptoms caused by the noble rot characteristic of the type of grape that is intended for the vinification of a late harvest were harvested.
In the bottling of Quinta de S. Francisco Late Harvest White Wine 2010, after stopping alcoholic fermentation and stabilizing the wine, 40% aged for about two years in used French oak casks.
We are facing a wine that can be consumed today or in the coming years.
