How to choose wine for your Christmas? We help you!

In Portugal we are privileged with an offer of good quality wines at a good price.

When choosing wine for Christmas, opt for wines with a more direct perception, which are a safe choice and can be enjoyed by everyone. The Christmas season is not the best time to serve complex, fruitless or very aged wines, as formatted or less trained palates rarely value them.

Dense wines, with more pronounced acidity

To pair with the main dish, in Portugal usually the great cod, which can be paired with both white and red (thus eliminating some myths). It all depends on taste and also on how the cod is cooked. The important thing is to opt for wines that are somewhat dense, but with a more pronounced acidity to balance with the oil in the dish. Nectars that are full, elegant and lively. The wines, whether white or red, that best meet these requirements come from the Dão region and we have good suggestions here.

Red wine is always a good choice.

To pair with the turkey, the choice is not difficult either. As this meat has a somewhat indistinct taste, we recommend red wine from the Douro region. Click here for some good options. To drink with a goat dish, you can also select a Dão wine that usually gives excellent results.

Wine to sweeten the conversation

To end the meal in style, select a few bottles of the four great fortified wines that the Portuguese love most and are most proud of as unique producers: Porto Wine, Madeira, Moscatel de Setúbal and Carcavelos. Since they are mostly sweet, they can be tasted at the end of the meal, and you can anticipate the less sweet ones for the beginning. We leave here a suggestion of Moscatel and Port Wines.
