The sea ... our eternal lover!

XX

The sea and Portugal have had their destinations linked for a long time, like two lovers who have known each other for a long time. Our culture, our gastronomy, our population would not be the same without the influence of the sea that surrounds us. The sea brought us the taste of spices, new tastes, new customs and discoveries.

In Portugal, we can almost say that there is a beach for each visitor and a port in each corner with a lighthouse to guide us on the way.

Since the 14th century, the Portuguese have been present in seas all over the world. Fishermen in the northern seas, conquerors of islands and lands below and beyond the sea and traders with people from all over the world. But it was in the 15th and 16th centuries that Portuguese navigators discovered new seas and new lands, increasing the limits of the Portuguese crown: Madeira, Azores, the West African coast, the route to the East, Brazil, until we were the first Europeans to reach the Japan.

Along the way, we have admirable stories of courage and passion.
