The Reason #30
The Reason #30
A toast with Port Wine.
Autumn is approaching. At this time of year, the children return to school, the temperatures gradually drop and we begin to imagine late afternoons and evenings by the fire or simply enjoying a good Port wine.
Port is a fortified wine produced in the Douro Demarcated Region, under peculiar conditions derived from natural and human factors. The main production sites are located between Régua and Pinhão, with some of the reference vineyards further east.
This is a production process based on tradition, which includes stopping the fermentation of the must by adding wine spirit (benefício or aguardentação), blending wines and ageing.
The Douro Region was conceived in the 18th century during the reign of King José I, resulting in the world's first demarcated and regulated region, what we in Portugal proudly call “our” Douro Vinhateiro.
This region produces mature wines, reds, whites, rosés, including sparkling wines and Moscatel, but the biggest star is undoubtedly Port wine.
Queen Elizabeth II had a great fondness for Portuguese wines, especially Port. Many were the ceremonies and receptions at which Port Wine was present. In tribute to the Queen, the Douro region will be the “European City of Wine 2023* as shared by the Clube de Vinhos Portugueses portal.
Other historic moments have also been toasted by the Queen with Port Wine, such as the last reception for the American head of state.
This month we want to offer you a magnificent experience with Port, a selection of three Ports from an excellent producer in the region. Pack Rainha 2022.
