The sea, our eternal lover!

 

 

 

The sea and Portugal have long been linked, like two lovers who have known each other for a long time. Our culture, our gastronomy and our people would not be the same without the influence of the sea that surrounds us. The sea has brought us the taste of spices, new flavors, new customs and discoveries.

 

 

In Portugal, we can almost say that there is a beach for every visitor and a port on every corner with a lighthouse to guide the way.

 

Since the 14th century, the Portuguese have been present on the seas all over the world. They were fishermen in the northern seas, conquerors of islands and lands here and there and traders with peoples from all over the world. But it was in the 15th and 16th centuries that Portuguese navigators discovered new seas and new lands, extending the limits of the Portuguese crown: Madeira, the Azores, the west coast of Africa, the route to the East, Brazil, until we were the first Europeans to reach Japan.

 

 

Along the way, there were admirable stories of courage and passion!
