January 27th is the International Day of one of the best specialties of our beautiful Portugal - Port wine.
There is a wide variety of liqueur and dessert wines, but true Port only comes from one of the oldest demarcated regions in the world - the Douro region.
The Port vineyards grow in the Douro valley, located about 100 kilometers from the city of Porto, where this wine got its name. The Douro valley is surrounded by a mountain range with sucalcos which leads to a hot, dry micro-climate. The arid, dry soil is a unique challenge for its producers, who cultivate it row by row. This combination of climate and soil makes Port wine incomparable to any other wine.
These wines are characterized by their intense aroma, sweetness and high alcohol content. According to their production process or characteristics, Port wines can be classified into different categories: Ruby, LBV, Single Quinta Vintage, Tawny, Colheita, White and Rosé. It also stands out among the wines that are aged in sealed bottles and in oak barrels.
On January 27, we also wanted to remember and honor all the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides around the world.
During this crisis that we are all experiencing, we are fortunate as a brand to be able to work from home and keep our operations running, thus ensuring the safety of our employees.
