Why Portuguese wines?
Why Portuguese wines?
Portugal is indeed a very exciting country because of its climate, its nine centuries of history, its cultural and gastronomic heritage, its beaches, its people, but also because of its wines.
We know that there are many consumers and wine lovers in the world who don't associate Portugal with a country that produces table wines, despite the notoriety of Port Wine and Madeira Wine, and perhaps even because of the international notoriety of these two very special and original types of wine, which are obviously also a source of pride.
In fact, one of the founders of Made in Portucale, when he was outside Portugal for professional reasons, noticed this more than once, going to a hotel or restaurant and asking for the wine list and talking to the professionals, he realized that for them Portugal didn't have any table wine, it was just Port and/or Madeira.
Perhaps one of the reasons why the Made in Portucale project exists is because of these experiences of its founders, but that's not all. That's why this article aims to share our vision of Portuguese wine, as enshrined by numerous critics and experts on the subject.
Did you know...
In the world of wine, Portugal represents perhaps one of the richest collections of grape varieties in the world. Portuguese wines have more variety of grape varieties than French wines, than Spanish wines and almost as many as Italian wines.
Why Portuguese wines?
We are convinced that it is easy to become a fan of Portuguese wines, and what is most interesting and even fascinating about Portuguese wines is the fact that they are so different and original.
We believe that we are heirs to a manifest treasure trove of grapes, given the quantity, originality and diversity of grape varieties that exist in Portugal.
Despite our small size, our fourteen (14) wine-growing regions are very different from each other, each offering its own unique terroir, providing different varieties of grapes, which will naturally result in many different wines from different regions.
When we propose that you dare to taste our flavors, it comes from the conviction that Portugal offers a lot of value, quality and diversity to the world, which is why we like to share this purpose in our vision, namely to share the best that is made in Portugal.
Although there is certainly room for development, Portuguese wines already have a distinctive brand, very similar to Portugal's gastronomic heritage, and there is always something new to appreciate and taste.
Distinct aromas and flavors
We obviously admit that we have seen a qualitative evolution in recent decades, despite the centuries-old history of wine production in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula, and that's a good thing. The world certainly appreciates it, especially the consumer and connoisseur of good wine.
One of the most exciting aspects for those who taste and get to know Portuguese wines is the fascinating variety of aromas and flavors that are very different from what you can drink in the world.
Until you have the opportunity to drink Portuguese wine, one thing is certain: you are missing out on a series of distinct aromas and flavors that you can only find in Portuguese wines, obviously in Portugal and Made in Portucale, for example.
The challenge for those who have never tasted Portuguese wines
For those who try Portuguese wines for the first time, it's a challenge that will never tire of being surprised, certainly because of the regional characteristics of each wine and the ease with which they can be paired with food.
