A selfish perspective.
A selfish perspective.
At this point, I think it's important to talk a little about what drives us. What motivated us and led us to create this project. I've decided to do it from a kind of selfish point of view ... sharing with you just my perspective.
I've lived in Portugal for many years and in my growing knowledge of this eclectic country, one of the things that delighted me most was discovering that we are a land of high-quality makers. Local traditions, recipes and production methods that have been handed down from fathers to sons, mothers to daughters, grandparents to grandchildren, people who care for and understand the land and who try to work in harmony with nature.
Even now, I can always taste the sweet pumpkin jam combined with creamy goat's cheese on toasted, crusty cornbread that I always ate as a child ...
On my many trips to the countryside, it has become remarkably clear to me how the concept of family intertwines with cheeses, sausages, honeys, wines and many other products. The most surprising part is that this characteristic is reflected in every region of Portugal, from Minho to the Algarve and even on our stunning islands - the Azores and Madeira. The communities are involved from start to finish in the entire creation process and, although the quantities are usually small, this only guarantees their uniqueness.
I've always been amazed at how small villages can be so sustainable in their production, doing it themselves, with great quality and with pride. This is a message we would like to share.
At Made in Portucale, we are collecting history, a piece of heart, part of a soul or even a dream? and, of course, a small fraction of our great love for this beautiful country.
